The second manuscript in progress, is a children’s picture book based on a poem I recited many years ago in front of a congregation of about 100 people at a birthday celebration for my spiritual father, Reverend LaVerne Anderson of Hope Community Church in Amherst, Massachusetts. I wrote it in the afternoon, read it aloud to myself countless times, and edited all night long in preparation.
Love for Reverend LaVerne encouraged me to share my poem in front of what then seemed like a huge daunting audience. I went on a search for an illustrator and finally found Gina Hagen serendipitously when I was visiting my mother about a year ago. My illustrator is a creative, whimsical, accomplished artist, Gina Hagen, who is working on the final sketches as I post here. Once she completes the art, the book formatting is next. And this time, I must not neglect marketing--or getting the word out about the book.! Alas, I am learning how important marketing is if you really want to share with as many people as possible.
I love children’s books. I read them to children for hours on end and still do. I read them myself for the stories and illustrations. As a university professor, I taught Children’s Literature. As a respite foster parent, I read stories and tell and read Bible stories to children of all ages. Do you have favorites? Do you write children’s books or stories?
